The Professionals

The Professionals, or Pros as it’s often known to fans, is a British action/crime show of the late seventies/early eighties. The complete series is available on DVD, but only in Region 2, so fire up your multi-region player. The Professionals featured two agents of CI5, a fictional British intelligence division; Ray Doyle and his partner Bodie, and their irascible and cunning boss, George Cowley. The show is fondly remembered for gritty and usually solidly plotted stories, and the good looks and occasionally appalling clothes of our action heroes. While you can find gen stories, much of Pros fandom is there for the slash, and this guide concentrates on that aspect. There was a short-lived sequel in the nineties called The New Professionals, which didn’t feature any of the characters of the original series.

An excellent introductory site off Live Journal is Dave Matthews Guide to the Professionals. Episode lists and summaries, and other useful info can be found.
Also off Live Journal, but often linking to it is Alison's Rec Page

On livejournal, ship_manifesto offers a summary of the series here, and crack_van’s memories has links to stories that fans found worth recommending. (Note that some of the links may be out of date for the Circuit Archive because of address changes). crack_van also has a useful overview page.

pros_newsletter updates fannish activity both on and off livejournal.

circuit_archive and hatstander update information for the two major fanfic archives, both of them slash.

cqcon is the lj point of contact for the Close Quarters con held in July 2007.

The following communities offer stories, icons and pics, challenges, reviews and all sorts of tight-trousered goodness.

Updated 21/5/08. If you see any changes needed, please let me know.

Hi *waves*

thank you for making this entry. I have updated the Overview entry for the series and fandom at crack van:

if you'd like to add that to your links above. I have of course added your Newbie guide, too :)

Popping in by way of the question someone asked recently at the_safeouse and just thinking that the list of communities you've got up might be a little misleading if people try to visit them in the order you've got them up - and worse might give the impression that Pros fandom is either dead and/or sleeping fairly soundly!

angelfishfanfic doesn't seem to have been really used/updated since 2005, although there's a post from April 2007 changing the layout.

pros_pearl started out beautifully last year for the thirtieth anniversary, but seemed to fade away after just a month or two.

santa_pros and summer_of_78 were great challenges, but both are full of broken links now because long stories were posted to a website that doesn't actually archive them - and again they were both from a couple of years ago and so might make it look as if no one's posting in Pros since then! Most of the stories are archived with Hatstand and/or Circuit though.

Maybe if you changed the order of the listing (unless there's a comm rule somewhere that says they have to be alphabetical) to
and then the other four after that? (Or summat similar?!)

Not sure if you're allowed to do this either, but maybe you could suggest that people travel to Pros via Alison's Recs" website, because she links to alot of Prosfic author's livejournals in her recs list?

Just thought I'd mention it all, hope you don't mind!

Bodie and Doyle

I don't mind at all. :-) Helpful suggestions are always welcome. I'll have a wee play along the lines you suggested. I'll check out the Alison's rec site - if it mentions a whole heap of livejournals then I don't think that it will be a problem to mention it here.
